Certification scheme
New hot-water boilers
92/42/EEC
Conformity assessment under the Directive 92/42/EEC on efficiency requirements for new hot-water boilers fired with liquid or gaseous fuels.

Scheme summary
92/42/EEC sets out the efficiency requirements for new hot-water boilers fired with liquid or gaseous fuels. Under this scheme, we assess your boiler's conformity with the efficiency requirements and issue the corresponding certificate.
Scope
New hot-water boilers fired with liquid or gaseous fuels. The Directive regulates energy efficiency rather than product safety: the assessment centres on the boiler's useful efficiency at rated output and at part load.
The safety requirements for gas-fired boilers are assessed separately under (EU) 2016/426, where applicable; assessments under the two pieces of legislation can be planned together.
Conformity assessment modules
| Module | Basis | Annex of the Directive |
|---|---|---|
| B | EC type-examination | Annex 3 |
| C | Conformity to type | Annex 4 |
| D | Production quality assurance | Annex 4 |
| E | Product quality assurance | Annex 4 |
Modules C, D and E require a valid EC type-examination certificate (Module B).
Application file
- Name and address of the manufacturer (and of the authorised representative, if any)
- Written declaration that no application has been lodged with another notified body
- Technical documentation including a general description, drawings, materials, standards applied, calculations and test reports
- Declaration of rated output, boiler type and efficiency class
- A sample representative of production for the test programme
Efficiency testing
Useful efficiency tests at full load and part load are carried out in our laboratory in accordance with the relevant harmonised standard, taking measurement uncertainty into account. The decision rule to be applied is shared with you before the contract.
In Module C checks, the product's conformity with the approved type, the marking (CE marking, notified body number) and the documentation are examined; the efficiency test is repeated where necessary.
