Certification scheme
Gas appliances
(EU) 2016/426
Conformity assessment of appliances and fittings under the Gas Appliances Regulation (EU) 2016/426.

Scheme summary
The Gas Appliances Regulation (EU) 2016/426 defines the essential requirements that gas appliances and fittings must meet when placed on the market. Under this scheme, we carry out conformity assessment through EU-type examination and production-phase modules and issue the corresponding certificate.
Scope
Appliances: appliances used for cooking, refrigeration, air-conditioning, space heating, hot water production, combined hot water and space heating, gas lighting, washing, drying and ironing, as well as forced draught burners and heating bodies equipped with such burners.
Fittings: safety, controlling and regulating devices and sub-assemblies thereof.
Conformity assessment modules

| B | EU-type examination — production type | — |
| C2 | Internal production control plus supervised product checks at random intervals | Module B |
| D | Quality assurance of the production process | Module B |
| E | Product quality assurance | Module B |
| F | Product verification | Module B |
| G | Unit verification (single product / very small series) | No |
For factors affecting the choice of module, see our Knowledge Base article.
Application file
- Name and address of the manufacturer (and of the authorised representative, if any)
- Written declaration that no application for the same product has been lodged with another notified body
- Technical documentation covering design, manufacture and operation, including a risk analysis
- A sample representative of production for the test programme
- Supporting evidence for the technical solution where standards have not been applied in full
- Where applicable, EU-type examination certificate and declaration of conformity for fittings incorporated into the appliance
Assessment
The technical documentation is reviewed; the product is examined and tested against the essential requirements of Annex I of the Regulation and the product-specific harmonised standards. Gas tests are carried out in our laboratory; for tests outside our scope, an accredited external laboratory is used and you are informed.
Under Module C2, product checks are carried out at random intervals determined by us and without prior notice; the sample is selected by the inspector performing the check. Under Modules D and E, the quality system is assessed and surveillance is carried out at least once a year.
Certificate and beyond
- Changes to the approved type that may affect conformity are subject to additional approval.
- A Module C2 certificate is valid for one year; recertification is carried out at the end of this period.
- A Module G certificate is valid only for the single verified product.
- Rules for the use of certificates are defined in the contract and in the rules for the use of logos and certificates.
